National Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust

The Wolfpack assembled on the messdecks this afternoon to take part in a remembrance of the Holocaust. Organized by the Multi-Cultural Committee, the internationally recognized date comes from the Hebrew calendar and also marks the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising. Chaplain Driskell began the event with introductory remarks and an invocation. CTT2 June discussed the history of the Holocaust and genocide, while SH3 Kotalik presented biographies of Holocaust victims. ET3 Evans read a poem “Unanswered” by Dunio Bernhaut, and the Commanding Officer provided closing remarks. Although the remembrance is a somber event, the crew was reminded we should never forget our past and the importance of confronting hate wherever it occurs, defending freedom, and promoting human dignity.
